As there was no official title for Pablo Picasso’s painting dated October 21, 1967, Jill Magid has assigned one: “Portrait of Jill Magid”. With this title, the painting becomes a portrait of her and a self-portrait of hers, co-authored with Picasso. “Portrait of Jill Magid” should henceforth be applied to the real painting and all its future copies. By exploiting the peer-to-peer network - the domain par excellence of piracy and bootleg copies – Magid aims to share “Portrait of Jill Magid” as the painting’s title until it is so omnipresent to become its official one.
